  Bridging the Gap

A workspace with good ergonomic properties bridges the gap between human biomechanics and technology. Since people physically interface with their workspace through three of the five senses, (sight, touch, and hearing) each must be considered when designing the individual workspace. Moreover, there are cognitive and emotional factors in the work environment that affect concentration and mood such as, fatigue, strain and stress. Workstations and work environments with good ergonomic properties can help alleviate these stress factors and enhance the input received from the three senses.

Ergonomic Assessment >>>    Concept Development >>>   Customized Technology >>>
Critical factors include:
  • Existing space
  • Type and number of workstations required
  • Monitor configurations
  • Workflow efficiency
  • Advanced technology needs
  • Requirements of analog viewing
  • Traffic management
  • Budget and cost control

Design plans are developed with consideration of:
  • Space designation and layout
  • Ergonomic furniture systems
  • Acoustical treatments
  • Partitioning
  • Lighting features and placement
  • HVAC considerations
  • Capability to add future functionality

Considering the individual’s physical and environmental needs as well as institutional objectives, recommendations will include:
  • Customized ergonomic workstation furniture
  • Display mounts appropriate to space and workflow needs
  • Ambient and task lighting
  • Ergonomic seating and personal accessories
