  Lighting

Task and ambient lighting is an essential part of the ergonomic workspace and are necessary elements in order to create a working environment that enhances productivity and well-being. Optimal office lighting has been shown to increase creative potential, lowers the possibility of eye strain and allows for higher visual acuity and better performance. Some usual symptoms directly attributed to poor office lighting are:

• Headaches
• Indigestion and Nausea
• Blurred or double Vision
• Flickering Sensations
• Itching and Burning Eyes
• Tension and Vision Fatigue

When designing The Evolve Workspace we consider the use of ambient lighting to avoid distracting from monitors, task lighting for note taking, and we select the right level of light to enhance your ability to see monitor images with consideration of the following aspects:

• How the lighting is controlled
• The use of overhead, full spectrum and blue backlighting
• Energy conservation
• Aesthetics
• The target of illumination
• Work environment architecture

Quick Tip:
20/20/20 Rule

Optometrists often suggest the 20/20/20 rule: after 20 minutes of computer use they recommend looking at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.

It is also recommended that computer users periodically take substantial breaks (at least one 15 minute break after two hours of computer use) to prevent eye problems and muscular skeletal disorders associated with computer use.

Computer users engaged in intensive keyboard work should take a 15 minute break every hour.
